Al Sadu is living heritage, which means the best way to understand it is to see it made. These are the places in the UAE where you can watch weavers at work, learn the basics yourself, or buy directly from the women who keep the craft alive.

Abu Dhabi

House of Artisans, Qasr Al Hosn

Opened in April 2021 in the Qasr Al Hosn complex, the House of Artisans features three Emirati crafts — Al Sadu, khoos and talli. Meet the artisans, watch them work and join a workshop. Times change, so check before you go; some special workshops are charged separately.

Before you go

Workshop times change, so confirm with the venue first. Ask before photographing an artisan at work. And if you buy, buy from the maker where you can: it is the income that keeps the looms working, and that, more than anything, is how the UAE brought Sadu back.
